Project Description

Dani Costa approached Oodles to develop a geospatial visualization solution in Unreal Engine for importing KMZ and SHP files onto real-world terrain environments. The client required a scalable and accurate terrain mapping system capable of rendering polylines, geographic shapes, and terrain overlays while enabling custom terrain material color adjustments for realistic environmental visualization and simulation workflows.

Scope Of Work

The project focused on building a terrain visualization workflow within Unreal Engine that supports geospatial file integration and terrain customization. The scope included importing and processing KMZ and SHP files, rendering geographic polylines and shape data onto real-world terrain, terrain alignment and positioning, material and texture color adjustments, terrain visualization optimization, and implementation of accurate mapping workflows for interactive environmental rendering.

Our Solution

To streamline geospatial terrain visualization, Oodles developed a custom Unreal Engine-based solution capable of processing geographic mapping data and rendering it accurately onto real-world terrain environments. Key Implementations include: 

  • KMZ & SHP File Integration: Enabled seamless import and processing of geospatial mapping files within Unreal Engine.
  • Polyline & Shape Rendering: Implemented accurate rendering of geographic paths, boundaries, and terrain overlays.
  • Real-World Terrain Mapping: Aligned imported geospatial data with realistic terrain environments for improved visualization accuracy.
  • Terrain Material Customization: Developed workflows for adjusting terrain material colors and environmental textures dynamically.
  • Interactive Terrain Visualization: Built optimized rendering workflows for smooth and scalable terrain interaction.
