Project Description

The project is about rebuilding the existing Sagebin Roku channel into an enhanced, modernized v2 version. Oodles collaborated with Sagebin to redesign the Roku app’s UI/UX, improve feature functionality, and integrate advanced media handling capabilities while maintaining platform stability and scalability.
Scope Of Work

The client needed a complete revamp of their existing Roku channel with improved media navigation, better playback controls, subtitle management, and a secure, seamless payment gateway. Sagebin also required integration of multiple video formats and user features such as bookmarks, trailers, lending functionality, and account settings. Oodles was responsible for implementing these changes within a defined timeline and budget, using Roku BrightScript and client-provided APIs.
 
Our Solution

To meet the project goals, Oodles implemented the following:

  • Rebuilt the user authentication system with secure login, registration, and logout support
  • Revamped the UI navigation to mirror the "Latter-Day Saint" channel for improved usability
  • Integrated detailed movie pages with trailer playback, version selection (Blu-ray, HD, DVD, VHS), and lending options
  • Implemented Roku-native payment gateway using Roku Billing Services
  • Fixed and enhanced 'My List' functionality across all relevant screens
  • Enabled subtitle selection for both embedded and external files
  • Configured video player with version switching, subtitle controls, and bookmarking support
  • Established GitHub for version control and SonarQube for code quality checks
  • Delivered a structured four-sprint model with bi-weekly deliverables and daily updates
