Liberate Health, a health-tech platform dedicated to improving clinical communication, aimed to digitize handwritten prescriptions for quicker data access and improved record-keeping. They turned to Oodles to build a backend OCR solution that automates image-to-text conversion using cloud-based intelligence for efficient healthcare workflows.

Scope Of Work

The client sought a solution from Oodles to streamline prescription digitization by extracting handwritten data from images. The client needed a backend setup that connects to Google Vision API, processes clinical notes in real time, and delivers structured outputs. Key focus areas included OCR integration, secure credential handling, and script-based automation.

To meet the client's need for fast, accurate text extraction, Oodles implemented a streamlined OCR system powered by Google Vision API. Key features include:

  • Repository Setup: Cloned the Liberate Health GitHub repository and configured the working directory structure.
  • Package Installation: Installed all necessary Node.js dependencies to support OCR and automation.
  • Environment Configuration: Added secure handling of Google Vision credentials via .env file integration.
  • OCR Automation Script: Developed a custom data.js script that fetches and processes image files for text extraction.
  • Text Structuring: Parsed OCR output into structured data formats for easier health record integration.
